St. Mary School LogoAccelerated Reader Quiz Look-up

Dear Teachers, Parents and Students,

Now that we have expanded our Accelerated Reader quiz library from 1,600 quizzes to over 100,000 quizzes we need a new way to find them. A PDF file simply cannot handle a list of 100,000. Therefore, we are providing a link to the advanced search engine for quiz lookups that you can access from any internet connected computer: http://www.arbookfind.com/UserType.aspx

Accelerated Reader Enterprise Edition offers unlimited access to more than 100,000 quizzes on books from publishers around the world. New books are constantly being added to the list, so if a book you want is not on the list today, be sure to check back periodically.

Here are some helpful tips to help understand the various levels and help navigate through the search to locate the most appropriate books for the students reading level.

Before choosing a book, you need to understand what the level codes mean. Often time the student is too focused on the point value of a book and does not know if it is an appropriate book for his/her reading level. A student could spend weeks trying to "hit a homerun" for big points by reading a book too advanced for them and then do poorly on the quiz. This has a negative impact on their grade and can create added frustration to the learning process. Reading needs to remain fun, so having a better understanding of the levels to make better book choices will help keep it fun. The two levels that work together are Interest Level and Book Level.

Interest Level has three categories (LG/MG/UG) to help organize the books to grade level. LG is for books with topics or story lines students in lower grades (K-4) would be interested in. MG is for interests of students in the middle grades (5-8) and UG is for content upper grade students (9-12).

Book Level (BL) is a numeric value to identify the degree of difficulty the book is. The higher the number the more advanced the reading content is. For example, a BL of 4.5 would be at a 4th/5th grade reading level.

Now to combine the two. You will see various Book Levels that have different, or multiple, Interest levels. For example, books in the MG Interest Level with a Book Level of below 3. Why? Simple. Students move at different paces in all subjects. Reading comprehension is no different. If a student is in a middle grade but the reading skills are in the 2.0-3.0 range he/she will still want to read books that are fun and interesting to a Middle grade student.
